After notching three assists in as many games, former Western Michigan defenseman Joe Corvo is the CCHA Alumnus of the Week. His week began on Tuesday in Tampa Bay when he recorded an assist, four shots on goal and logged over 25 minutes of ice time in a 4-3 overtime loss. The next night the Senators visited the Panthers, the Oak Park, Ill., native drew assists on the last two goals and finished +2 in a 5-4 victory. Friday night in Dallas, Corvo finished the evening +1 in a 4-2 win over the Stars. In all three games, he recorded at least one shot on goal and had over 20 minutes of ice time. In three seasons at Western Michigan, he scored 22 goals to go along with 58 assists for 80 points in 105 games. In his freshman year at WMU, Corvo was voted to the CCHA All-Rookie team as the Broncos finished third in the regular season. A year later, he tallied 33 points in 32 games en route to CCHA All-Conference Second Team honors. The gritty defenseman was a member of the 1997 U.S. World Junior Championship along with the 2003 and 2006 US World Championship teams. The LA Kings draft pick began his professional career with the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League and is in his second season with the Ottawa Senators. He has 128 points in 307 NHL contests.
