CCHA Alumnus of the Week - R.J. Umberger

RJ Umberger For the second time this season, a former Ohio State forward has garnered Alumni of the Week honors. RJ Umberger put up a goal and three assists in the final two games of the week, helping the Philadelphia Flyers to three points. After being held scoreless in a 6-3 win over Carolina, the Steel City native set up two goals, including one late in the game to force overtime, against the Capitals. Washington went on to pick up an OT victory. In Ottawa the next night, Umberger scored the Flyers' first goal to tie the game at one, and then assisted on the game-tying goal in the third period en route to a 4-3 win over the Senators. In three years at OSU, RJ tallied 129 points in 112 games and recorded at least 20 assists each season. His 37 points in 32 games earned him CCHA Rookie of the Year honors as well as a spot on the All-Rookie team. During his third season as a Buckeye, his impressive numbers (26-27-53 in 43 games) lifted him to an All-Conference selection and a Second Team All-American. Umberger made his professional debut in 2004 with the Philadelphia Phantoms of the AHL and has since split time between there and with the Flyers. He has played over 174 NHL games and recorded 79 points.
