Alumnus of the Week - Marty Turco

Marty Turco For just the second time this season, a goaltender has been named CCHA Alumnus of the Week. Marty Turco played every minute of each game this week, backstopping the Dallas Stars to a 3-0-0 record on a West Coast swing. In Vancouver on Thursday, the former Wolverine stopped 29 shots in a 4-3 win over the Canucks. Three days later in Edmonton, he turned aside 32 shots en route to a 4-1 victory and earning second star honors. The Ontario native's week concluded in Calgary, where he made 31 saves in a 2-1 decision over the Flames, earning first-star honors in the process. In four years at Michigan, Turco amassed 127 wins, an NCAA record, compared to only 28 losses. He backstopped the Wolverines to a pair of CCHA regular-season championships as well as two conference tournament championships. He was an integral part of the 1996 and 1998 national championship teams. The 1996-97 season, in which Michigan won the CCHA regular-season and tournament championships, saw him turn in a 33-4-4 record and being named to both the All-CCHA and All-American first teams. He finished his last season on the All-CCHA second team and a national champion. In six full seasons with the Dallas Stars, he has reached 30 wins four times and 40 wins once. The two-time All-Star has been the recipient of the Roger Crozier MBNA Saving Grace Award twice. Turco, who made his professional debut with the Kalamazoo K-Wings of the IHL, was drafted by Dallas in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft.
