Final Stats
Tonight's game marks the fourth time that Michigan and Miami have faced off in CCHA Tournament play. U-M beat MU in the 1992 semifinals and swept a first-round series in 1996.
This evening's contest marks Miami's third appearance in the CCHA Championship game (1993, 2006). The team has never won a CCHA title.
U-M leads the all-time series versus Miami by a 66-18-3 advantage.
Miami (32-7-1) and Michigan (31-5-4) are the only two programs in the country to have reached the 30-win plateau.
The RedHawks earned their first loss this season when playing on neutral ice (3-1-0).
Overall U-M is 8-5 in the CCHA Championship game, earning the Mason Cup in 1994, 1996, 1997, 2002, 2003, and 2005). Tonight's contest marks the seventh time in eight seasons that the Wolverines have played for the CCHA title.
This is also the sixth time in program history that Michigan has captured the CCHA regular-season and postseason championship (1994, 1996, 1997, 2002, 2005).
The Wolverines remain undefeated when scoring first in a contest (27-0-3).
U-M is 15-2-1 when ranked No. 1.
Billy Sauer earned his sixth straight victory, dating back to a 5-2 victory over MSU (Feb. 23). The goaltender made 27 saves in tonight's contest.
Matt Siddall (F) of Northern Michigan, Ryan Jones (F) of Miami, Tim Miller (F) of Michigan, Alec Martinez (D) of Miami, Mark Mitera (D) of Michigan, and Jeff Zatkoff (G) of Miami were all named members of the CCHA Championship All-Tournament team.
Miller was named the CCHA Championship All-Tournament team MVP. The forward had a 3-2-5 line in four playoff contests.
